Custom Equipment, Inc. started out in 1981 as a small fabrication and welding repair business on N. Main Street in West Bend. This shop is where the first “2-in-1” scissor lift was designed and manufactured as a mausoleum casket lift. The lifts were designed to allow high lifting capacities while remaining light weight to prevent damage to the decorative tile, marble and wood floors of mausoleums.
By 1993, Custom Equipment, Inc. outgrew their location downtown and moved to the industrial park on Progress Drive. Hy-Brid Lifts by Custom Equipment, Inc. became a new division of the company in 2004, when they entered the construction and industrial market with their unique design. The compact and robust Hy-Brid scissor lifts are used for a range of applications including facility maintenance, electrical, wiring and drywall installation. Because of their light weight and innovative design, the machines are able to successfully operate on many traditionally "off-limit" flooring surfaces. Today, Hy-Brid Lifts by Custom Equipment, Inc. has grown to offer 6 models that are sold and rented throughout the world. Assembly operations and office personnel are located in a second location in Richfield.
Although Custom Equipment, Inc. has grown from a small shop to a large manufacturer, they are still family-owned and still committed to providing innovative, creative solutions at the highest and most sustainable manufacturing standards.
