2016 Business of the Year Recipient
Commerce State Bank
West Bend, Wis. (March 28, 2017) - The City of West Bend is honored to announce Commerce State Bank as Business of the Year for 2016. An awards ceremony was held this month to honor them and the contributions they have made to the community and their industry.
“West Bend is a community founded on entrepreneurism,” said City of West Bend Mayor Kraig Sadownikow as he presented the award to Commerce State Bank. “We are thankful and grateful to be a part of Commerce State Bank’s phenomenal story of local entrepreneurial success.”
Commerce State Bank was founded by Joe Fazio, Tom Hopp and Dave Borchardt in 2005. They started out with eight employees in a small strip mall in West Bend, and have grown to over 70 employees with a new, beautiful main office along Highway 45 and four additional locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Their services span from business lending, home lending, deposit accounts and wealth management.
“West Bend is a great place to start and grow a business,” said Joseph Fazio III, CEO, chairman and co-founder of Commerce State Bank. “Currently, we are the 38th largest bank in Wisconsin and the community is very instrumental in our growth and future.”
Commerce State Bank is focused on earning relationships and that virtue has carried the bank through every success they have experienced. Their belief in being responsive, fair and helping clients grow has pushed them to be a leader in their industry. They have been recognized numerous times by the Milwaukee Business Journal as a Fastest Growing Firm and Top Workplace.
“We know what it takes to start a business, manage finances and the value in partnerships, as we live and breathe this each and every day at Commerce State Bank,” said Dave Borchardt, CFO, COO and co-founder of Commerce State Bank.
The community is greatly influenced by Commerce State Bank, as employees are encouraged to volunteer with local organizations through events, fundraisers and committee participation. They enjoy building houses with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering for United Way of Washington County events and supporting the West Bend Baseball Association, West Bend High School Athletics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Casa Guadalupe Education Center, Boys and Girls Club, Sunrise Rotary and many more. Giving back is ingrained in the culture at Commerce State Bank.
“We encourage employees to get involved in the community where we live, work, and play to help others and make a difference,” said Tom Hopp, president and co-founder of Commerce State Bank. “Community involvement rewards us back in enriching the community, personal and professional growth, and lifelong friendships.”
This is the third year for the City of West Bend’s Business of the Year program. The program was established to recognize local businesses that are leaders in the community and their industry. Winners are chosen by a committee of local leaders.
