City of West Bend to focus on business retention and expansion

WEST BEND, Wis. (October 27, 2015) - As the City of West Bend looks forward to 2016 and beyond, growing local businesses will continue to be a key component for supporting the thriving economy. Studies have shown that existing businesses are responsible for 80% of new jobs within a community, and the City of West Bend is making it a priority to ensure businesses have the resources they need to be successful.

“West Bend is thankful to be home to so many remarkable businesses,” said Mayor Kraig Sadownikow. “We need to be sure we are helping, not hindering, their growth. Our goal is to keep those businesses right here and help them prosper.”

In August the city hired a new Economic Development Manager, Ashley Mukasa, and part of her role will be to meet onsite, one-on-one, with established businesses in West Bend. The goals of the visits will be to connect businesses with city, county and state resources; learn more about individual operations and future goals; and work together to identify opportunities and solve problems related to infrastructure, workforce and government services.

Through this initiative, the City of West Bend has established a list of approximately 60 businesses they plan to visit by mid-year 2016. The information gathered will not only help local businesses grow and be competitive in their industry, it will also help guide the city’s economic strategies going forward.

The city will begin making calls in November to schedule on-site visits, but if you would like to ensure your business is on the list, please call Ashley Mukasa at 262-335-5171.
