GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The City of West Bend received their first Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This certificate of achievement is a significant accomplishment for the City. It is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting for a municipality to earn.
The City of West Bend’s 2018 CAFR had to receive unanimous approval from the reviewers on the Special Review Committee in order to receive the award. The reviewers use a checklist as a guide when assessing each CAFR. Prior year comments and suggestions for corrections are also reviewed. These graded summaries are then returned to the GFOA, where program staff then conduct an in-house review to verify comments and suggestions for improvements. This procedure ensures consistency within the program. A Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is awarded once the CAFR is determined to substantially conform to the program standards.
