Public Records Access Notice


Department Description:  The Department of Police exists to safeguard the lives and safety of all persons within the city, to protect property, and to assist in securing to all persons the equal protection of the law.  The Department has the responsibility to preserve the public peace, to enforce the laws and ordinances of the State and City, to detect and prevent the commission of crime, to apprehend and to arrest criminals and those who violate or are lawfully accused of violating such laws and ordinances, to preserve order at public places and to maintain the safe and orderly flow of traffic on public streets and highways.

Records Custodian:  The Chief of Police is the legal custodian of all Police Department records.  Information about those records may be obtained from, and requests to or copies of public records should be directed to the Chief of Police.  In his or her absence, the Police Chief's designee is the records custodian.

Location and Hours:  The Police Department public records are available at the address below between 8:00AM and 4:00PM, local time, daily excluding weekends and holidays.

Fees for Records:  Photocopies of public records are 25 cents per face sheet, Motor Vehicle Accidents are $2.00, CD/DVD's are $5.00.  Prepayment of record fees over $5.00 may be required.  Fees for other reproduction and transcription, location of records, and mailing and shipping are described in the Department Policy, which is available for review or purchase from the Department at a cost of 25 cents per page.

Limitations on Access:  Although there is a presumption of complete public access to records consistent with the conduct of government business, a request may be denied in whole or in part for specific, sufficient reasons.  An oral request may be denied orally unless a demand for a written statement of the reason(s) is made within 5 business days of the denial.  Denial of a written request will be in writing with a statement of reason(s).

Completed public records request forms can be emailed or turned into the Police Department Clerical Office.

Police Department Clerical Office Hours:
Monday-Friday: 8:00AM to 6:00PM
Saturday: 8:00AM to 4:00PM
