PURPOSE: The Board of Zoning Appeals is established for the purpose of hearing appeals and applications, and for granting variances and exceptions to the provisions of Municipal Code 1.60 and 17.43 in accordance with §62.23, Wis. Stats.
POWERS AND DUTIES: The Board of Zoning Appeals shall have the powers and duties prescribed in Municipal Code 1.60 and 17.43 in accordance with §62.23, Wis. Stats.
STRUCTURE: The Board of Zoning Appeals shall consist of five (5) citizen members and two (2) alternate members. The mayor shall designate one of the alternates as the 1st alternate and the other as the 2nd alternate. The 1stalternate member shall act, with full power, only when a member of the board is absent or refuses to vote because of an interest in the matter to be heard. The 2nd alternate member shall so act only when the 1st alternate is absent or refuses to vote because of an interest in the matter to be heard or when more than one member of the board so refuses or is absent.
TERMS: The members of the Board of Zoning Appeals shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the Common Council at the organizational meeting, for staggered three (3) year terms.
CHAIRMAN: The mayor shall appoint one (1) member as chairperson.
