West Bend, WI (August 13, 2019) – The City of West Bend received its second Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2019 Operating Budget. This award represents a remarkable achievement for the City of West Bend. In order to receive this budget award, the City of West Bend’s budget presentation had to fulfill nationally recognized guidelines in the following areas:
* A policy document
* A financial plan
* An operations guide
* A communications device
The City of West Bend’s Operating Budget had to be rated “proficient” in all four of the above categories and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award. The prior year recommendations for improving future budgets from the GFOA reviewers also needed to be incorporated into the new 2019 Operating Budget.
There are over 1,600 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website, www.gfoa.org.
Mayor Kraig Sadownikow stated, “Congratulations to the City of West Bend for earning this second GFOA Budget Award. This award is yet another example of how far the City has come financially in recent years. The Common Council’s efforts have led the City of West Bend in a positive financial direction. Special thanks to our Department Heads and staff in our Finance Department for earning this award again.” Carrie Winklbauer, Finance Administrator, expressed, “Thank you to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for recognizing the determination and effort that it took to incorporate the recommendations to enhance the 2019 Operating Budget and earn the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The City of West Bend is honored to be among the notable list of recipients in the State of Wisconsin."
