City of West Bend Receives $12,000 TRAVEL Grant from Department of Tourism

West Bend, Wis. (October 30, 2020): The City of West Bend received a $12,000 Tourism Relief to Accelerate Vitality and Economic Lift (TRAVEL) Stimulus Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. The City of West Bend is one of 158 recipients of TRAVEL grant funds totaling nearly $12 million. The TRAVEL grant program was designed to help Wisconsin’s tourism promotion and tourism development organizations resume business operations and restore economic activity stemming from the COVID-19 public health emergency. The effort is funded through the state’s discretionary federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act dollars.

“While there is no way for us to replace all that was lost, these grants are not only an acknowledgement of just how important tourism is to our state’s economy, but also a critical first step in a long journey that we will take together to rebuild,” said Secretary-designee, Sara Meaney. “I am grateful to Governor Evers for his commitment to Wisconsin’s tourism economy.”

The City of West Bend promotes and supports tourism activities throughout the year. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the City quickly partnered with the Business Improvement District (BID) Board to develop a six-month integrated marketing communications plan to increase consumer awareness and safely drive business to local businesses. Administered by the Communications Department, the plan included a paid partnership with Travel Wisconsin, lead generation campaign, HTML email communications, and a highly-targeted digital advertising strategy utilizing Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The BID Board covered the costs of implementation and production of three 4K videos and high-resolution photography.

“Thank you to the Department of Tourism for its financial support of the tourism industry,” said Jessica Wildes, Communications and Economic Development Director. “These funds helped the City of West Bend promote small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
