Leading the West Bend Community Memorial Library team has been an aspiration for Thiry since 2010, the start of his Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science at UW-Milwaukee. “I always thought West Bend would be a great community for my family,” Thiry said. “We have built lasting friendships with people who share similar values in the West Bend community.”
Thiry and his family enjoy the outdoors. His children grew up skiing at Sunburst while he and his wife hit the trails on their fat tire bikes. In addition to outdoor recreation, community involvement has always been rewarding for Thiry. He has volunteered and served as a member of various service organizations and nonprofit committees. It is often through volunteer work that Thiry has found new ways to improve library services, particularly through new and innovative partnerships.
“I am excited to welcome Steve to our City team,” said Jay Shambeau, City Administrator. “The library is an extraordinary asset within our community and I look forward to seeing it flourish with Steve’s leadership.”
“My goal is to bring awareness and support to the great things happening at the West Bend Library and City of West Bend,” said Thiry. “In every way possible, I will work to ensure the library weaves itself into the community's tapestry by reaching out in partnership and highlighting the benefits of connecting with your public library.”
“Thanks to all of the participants who took part in the selection process,” said Deb Bartnikowski, Library Board President. “They did a great job in making an excellent selection for the West Bend Community Memorial Library Director.”
Thiry begins his role as director on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Learn more about the West Bend Community Memorial Library at westbendlibrary.org.
