City of West Bend Prepares to Call for Bids on Three Street Reconstruction Projects

West Bend, Wis. (February 2, 2021): On the evening of Monday, February 1, the City of West Bend Common Council granted permission to advertise for bids on three street reconstruction projects to take place in 2021, including:

  • 7th Avenue between Walnut Street and Washington Street
  • Maple Street between South Main Street and 2nd Avenue
  • Mayer Street between Fair Street and Wilson Avenue

“Funding and executing utility infrastructure and road improvements have been a priority during my first year in office. We are pleased to go to bid on these much-anticipated projects,” said Mayor Christophe E. Jenkins. “It takes a significant amount of planning and coordination to implement these complex projects. Thank you to the City staff members who work hard to continually-improve and maintain the road system within our great city.”

Reconstruction Projects

  1. Contract 21-01 is for the reconstruction of 7th Avenue between Walnut Street and Washington Street. Work under this contract includes replacing eight-inch vitrified clay sanitary sewer main with approximately 1,600 feet of eight-inch polyvinylchloride (PVC); replacing six-inch cast iron and ductile iron water main with approximately 1,800 feet of eight-inch PVC water main; and the installation or replacement of existing storm sewer with approximately 1,200 feet of reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer. All sewer structures and water appurtenances are to be removed and replaced. The roadway is to be excavated to one foot behind the proposed curb and gutter. Aggregate base course will be placed to these extents. Concrete curb and gutter will be installed as indicated on the plan set. Sidewalk removal and replacement is also proposed in certain locations. Asphalt and concrete pavement will be replaced with new concrete pavement. Disturbed areas will be restored.

    The preliminary cost estimate for this project is $2,650,000. Previously budgeted funds for water utility, sewer utility, and the Pavement Maintenance Program (PMP) will be used to cover the cost of this project. The City anticipates the following schedule for Contract 21-01:

    • Obtain Permission to Bid: February 1, 2021
    • First Advertisement for Bids: February 18, 2021
    • Second Advertisement for Bids: February 25, 2021
    • Bid Opening: March 5, 2021
    • Award of Contract: March 15, 2021
    • Construction Period: May 3–October 29, 2021

  2. Contract 21-02 is for the reconstruction of Maple Street between South Main Street and 2nd Work under this contract includes installation or replacement of existing storm sewer with approximately 450 feet of reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer. All sewer structures and water appurtenances are to be vertically adjusted to match the proposed roadway elevation. The roadway is to be excavated to one foot behind the proposed curb and gutter. Aggregate base course will be placed to these extents. Concrete curb and gutter will be installed as indicated on the plan set. Sidewalk removal and replacement is also proposed in certain locations. Asphalt pavement will be replaced. Disturbed areas will be restored. The preliminary cost estimate for this project is $465,000.00. Previously budgeted PMP funds will be used to cover the cost of this project. The City anticipates the following schedule for Contract 21-02:

    • Obtain Permission to Bid: February 1, 2021
    • First Advertisement for Bids: March 18, 2021
    • Second Advertisement for Bids: March 25, 2021
    • Bid Opening: April 5, 2021
    • Award of Contract: April 19, 2021
    • Construction Period: June 7–September 10, 2021
  1. Contract 21-05 is for the reconstruction of Mayer Street between Fair Street and Wilson Avenue. Work under this contract will include installation or replacement of existing storm sewer with 1,800 feet of reinforced concrete pipe storm sewer. All sewer structures and water appurtenances are to be vertically adjusted to match the proposed roadway elevation. The roadway is to be excavated to one foot behind the proposed curb and gutter. Aggregate base course will be placed to these extents. Concrete curb and gutter will be installed as indicated on the plan set. Sidewalk removal and replacement is also proposed in certain locations. Asphalt pavement will be replaced. Disturbed areas will be restored. The preliminary cost estimate for this project is $680,000.00. Previously budgeted pavement maintenance program (PMP) funds will be used to cover the cost of this project. Assuming favorable action by the council, we are anticipating the following schedule for Contract 21-05:

    • Obtain Permission to Bid: February 1, 2021
    • First Advertisement for Bids: March 18, 2021
    • Second Advertisement for Bids: March 25, 2021
    • Bid Opening: April 5, 2021
    • Award of Contract: April 19, 2021
    • Construction Period: June 7–September 10, 2021
